Charlie Souza and The New Tropics. If anyone can be considered a veteran of the Tampa Bay music scene, it's Charlie Souza! Charlie Souza was the founding member and bass player for The Tropics, one of Tampa Bay's most popular rock bands in the 1960's. Since The Tropics, Souza has gone on to perform in such national acts as The New Rascals, Mudcrutch with Tom Petty, White Witch, Fortress, and Cactus.In addition, Souza has worked as a session player with some of the greatest rock 'n' roll legends, including Gregg Allman and Tom Petty. Souza currently tours with The New Rascals featuring Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Dino Danelli & Gene Cornish, along with Bill Pascali of Vanilla Fudge. Souza also sits on the Board of Directors for the Florida Musicians Hall of Fame, the Tampa Bay Music Hall of Fame, and the up-and-coming Tampa Bay Music Scene Historical Society. Souza's music has been released on Columbia, Atlantic, Polydor, Fantasy and Laurie Records.
