The Broken Hearts were formed in 2017 by bassist Charlie Souza (formerly of Tom Petty's Mudcrutch, The New Rascals) and Shawn Scheller at a Tom Petty Tribute concert for 88.5WMNF at Skipper's Smokehouse to pay homage and to Tom and his musical legacy.It was a sold-out event which has now become legendary in the lore of Tom Petty fandom. After continuous requests, the band decided to continue performing events. The Broken HEarts features Robin Swenson (Air Supply, Franki Valli & Four Seasons, Chuck Negron & 3 Dog Night) along with Scott Lockhart, Mateo Olivo and Julian Simonelli who replaced original members Joe Sanders and Charlie Souza who has retired from touring but continues to oversee band business.
