#BOB ANTHONY – SINGER / INSTRUMENTALIST / SONGWRITER
From his many years with Tallahassee rock legends The Casual Ts (including a cameo and song in the award-winning independent film Ruby in Paradise) to many sessions and live performances ranging from the avant-garde to musical theater to his 21st Century stints as frontman for Tampa Bay bands The SmokingJackets, Silent Jones, and since 2014, Botomatics (now called “The Electric Sea”), Bob Anthony has found many a platform for his command of and love for several musical styles, prompting Creative Pinellas to proclaim him “One of our best local singer-songwriters.” Recently, Anthony contributed the soundtrack to short film Open Mike, which has been accepted to regional film festivals for 2023.
The Largo native has graced many stages throughout the Tampa Bay area as well as other points throughout the southeast and beyond, opened for national acts such as Slobberbone, Kevn Kinney (Drivin’ and Cryin’), Alejandro Escovedo, David Dondero, Alex Chilton, The Replacements, and many others over the years, played alongside Florida roots-rock legend Charlie Pickett, Acho Brother, SHIM, and others, and has received considerable airplay on discerning radio stations in the Southeast. Focus lauds Anthony’s “guitar mastery and classic songwriting smarts” while the Tallahassee Democrat calls his music “intricately beautiful…to watch him play is to be fascinated and ultimately enchanted.” The Tampa Bay Times is more blush-inducing, referring to Anthony as “a great live performer…if it seems like (he) can do it all, it’s because he can,” Creative Pinellas points to him as “one of our best local singer-songwriters,“ while Connect Savannah is bucking for a spot on Anthony’s payroll by simply calling him “hellaciously talented.” Anthony himself grunts and glares at such talk, preferring to spend his time working and practicing, watching ‘Doc Martin’ reruns and documentaries, junk-shopping and attempting to re-channel the “radio dreams, far, far away” that flooded his youth…
