Pedro el Poeta is an award-winning Hip-Hop/Spoken Word/Freestyle artist, an activist, a husband & proud father of two, a teacher, and an Eckerd College graduate with a B.A. in Creative Writing. Born during the civil war in Nicaragua, Pedro immigrated to the U.S., becoming a political refugee at the age of six, and grew up in the Washington D.C. area. He has been performing from an early age, and since moving to St. Petersburg, FL in 2001, he has racked up a long list of accomplishments, including: Getting named 2014 Tampa Bay Artist of the Year at the 2014 Tampa Bay Regional Talkie Awards; Being an honorary speaker at TEDx Tampa Bay 2011; Performing the entire soundtrack of the internationally acclaimed, award-winning short film, "Torn Asunder;" Getting featured in the documentary, "Hip-Hop! Remember Me?"; Opening for legendary icons like Cypress Hill, Method Man & Redman; George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelics, Black Uhuru, and Russell Simmon's Def Poetry Jam on Broadway; As well as many other great accomplishments. He has also produced four albums, including “the Street Reporter EP,” which was executive produced by multi-platinum producer, Lance Quinn (Bon Jovi, Talking Heads, etc.). With a style all his own, filled with witty lyricism, explosive energy, great sense of timing, and a powerful stage presence, this internationally acclaimed Hip-Hop Poet is definitely a force to be reckoned with in the scene.
