BIO Blackjack Blues (featuring Ms. Gerri Diamond) John Lewis, lead guitarist, vocals, has played blues for a living his entire life, recently finishing a 14 year stint with Cincinnati Blues legend Sonny Hill, who toured with blues notables Gatemouth Brown and Jimmy Witherspoon.� Sonny Hill and the Nightshift were chosen to represent Cincinnati in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in 1999, 2000, and named Best Blues/R&B band in 1999 by City Beat magazine.� John's high energy playing won him a nomination for the Cincinnati Enquirer's Cammy Award for Best Blues Instrumentalist that same year. �John has had the honor of opening up for or sitting in with blues legends Otis Rush, Ronnie Baker Brooks, Luther Allison, Kenny Neal, Phil Guy and Coco Montoya.� Steve Way, drums, is a veteran drummer with over 45 years of professional playing and teaching experience. He has played all styles of music in concerts, clubs, and studio work. Steve was the percussion instructor for the Des Moines Public School System from 1972 to 1979. After moving to the Tampa Bay area in1979, he has played with many notable musicians including Decon Fuller, G.W. Rose, Mo Jackson, Bill & Ron Witherspoon, Bo Santo & The Rockatones, and George Harris of Panda Studios. He also held down many high profile house band positions including the St. Pete. Playboy Club, the Sky Lounge Sheraton Sand Key, the Cypress Club Tampa, and Happy Days brandon, just to name a few. One of Steve's memorable times was recording at the famous Chess Studios in Chicago Ill. In the early 70's. Gerri Diamond, vocalist, hails from Dayton, Ohio and started singing for Dayton Parks & Recreation at age 12. At 14 she began paying her dues on the local nightclub scene in Dayton. She remembers perfoming at the "Rendezvous" with the infamous H. Bomb Ferguson at the tender age of 15. At 17 Gerri was discovered by Bud Renau and landed her first record deal: the moving rendition of "Breakaway" on Saxoney records launched her recording career. Gerri went on to become an internationally known recording artist with Hanna Barbera, Saxoney and Counterparts Records. "Give Up On Love", which she co-wrote with Kenny Smith and recorded on Hanna Barbera, shot to #13 on the American pop charts and #5 in England. She recorded early Jackie De Shannon hits and worked with Lonnie Mack, The Casino's, Danny Toler of The Allman Brothers, and Billy Joe Royal. Her storied career spans five decades, including time as a TV host and personality, and opening up for acts like Frankie Valli, The Beach Boys, The Dovells and Roy Orbison. Gerri told me a couple of her greatest thrills were perfoming with Little Richard and Bo Diddley. She's rated in the Top 100 Old Soul Artists in Europe. Gerri Diamond resides in New Port Richey, Florida and has been known as "The Blues Mama" for over twenty years.
